Communications Regulation Body Cautions Companies Over Phone Systems Hacking Scandal
Figures unveiled by the communications regulator have said that there have been various instances of unlawful hacking of phone systems in the first part of 2011.
The Commission for Communications Regulation (Comreg) has supplied an alert to all companies and organisations after there was an increase in the amount of those who believe their telephone exchanges have been illicitly compromised.
The statutory body, that is in charge of the regulation of the electronic communications sector which includes telecommunications, radiocommunications and broadcasting transmission and the postal sector, investigated 22 issues from the first six months of this year and of these issues, 21 were regarded legitimate.
Although this is a fall in the availablility of issues from 25 in 2010, the news follows the stunning phone hacking scandal at the News of the World in which several editorial staff presumably hacked the telephone systems of missing children’s parents and dead soldier’s relatives.
